Essential Worker Spotlight: Dave Black

At Big Truck Rental, we understand what it takes to keep our industry moving forward. A big part of that growth is due to our essential workers. We want to shine some light on those special people who have continued to push through during COVID-19 and all of the hard times that have come with this new normal.

For this week’s Essential Worker Spotlight, we would like to introduce you to Dave Black. Dave is a Roll-Off Driver for Waste Pro USA in Palm Coast, Florida. Get to know more about Dave below!

  • What Company do you work for, how long have you been there, and what is your title?
    • I work as a Roll-Off Driver for Waste Pro USA in the Palm Coast, FL Division. I’ve been with the company since 2003- almost 20 years!
  • Tell us a little about yourself- family, hobbies, interests, etc.
    • I like keeping myself healthy – I haven’t called out sick in more than 30 years. God has blessed me with good health and a good work ethic. When I’m not in my truck, I like spending time with my family, riding my 2011 Harley Davidson Fat Boy, going to the beach, canoeing, kayaking, camping, and hiking.
  • What is a typical work day like for you?
    • I get into work at 5:15 a.m. and sometimes typically work up to 11 hours. I take safety very seriously, and because I’m careful behind the wheel, I’ve been fortunate enough to earn the Waste Pro $10,000 Safety Award three times.
  • What’s the most rewarding thing about your job?
    • The relationships I’ve formed, both with the customers along my route and with the managers and supervisors. I’ve gotten to know the people around me on a personal and professional level.
  • Have you ever worked on or with a BTR truck? If so, please tell us about your experience.
    • No, I have not worked on or with a BTR truck.
  • Anything else you want to share?
    • I always tell new drivers – good relationships and a good attitude are everything. If you come into work with a bad attitude, you’re not going to last. You can’t be a slacker or a whiner and can’t let stuff bother you.

From everyone at Big Truck Rental, we wanted to say thank you to Dave and the entire team at Waste Pro USA. Thank you for all your hard work!
