Essential Worker: Kathy Smartt

At Big Truck Rental, we understand what it takes to keep our industry moving forward. A big part of that growth is due to our essential workers. We want to shine some light on those special people who have continued to push through during COVID-19 and all of the hard times that have come with this new normal.

For this week’s Essential Worker Spotlight, we would like to introduce you to Kathy Smartt. Kathy is the district manager for Piney Woods Sanitation. Get to know more about Kathy below!

  • What Company do you work for, how long have you been there, and what is your title?
    • I work for Piney Woods Sanitation.  I am the District Manager for the Silsbee operations.  I have been with the company for 6 years.  I have been with the company for 6 years.  I have been in sales, ran routes, solicited Municipal contracts for the company.  When it comes down to it, it’s my job to make sure our customers get serviced consistently every day
  • Tell us a little about yourself- family, hobbies, interests, etc.
    • I am a mother of two boys.  I have two grandchildren.  I like to work with the Big Thicket nonprofit group supporting the preservation of our national preserve.  I love to be outside and see the diverse ecosystem of South East Texas,
  • What is a typical workday like for you?
    • I am up early and communicate with my opening crew to make sure everything is running well.  I come into work and check on the previous day’s stats, check payroll, look at the day’s deliveries, and our special projects.  I then walk the yard and the shop to inspect our equipment, I may go out for an observation or visit one of our cities to make sure our service is meeting expectations
  • What’s the most rewarding thing about your job?
    •   I like seeing people develop with our company.  This is a stepping stone for some and a career for others.  I want our employees to be challenged and grow within the company.
  • Have you ever worked on or with a BTR truck? If so, please tell us about your experience.
    • All of our Front-Loaders have come from BTR.  They have been instrumental when we have short turnarounds on franchise cities.  All of the trucks are delivered like they are new.  I can count on the truck to run from day one.

From everyone at Big Truck Rental, we wanted to say thank you to Kathy and the entire team at Piney Woods Sanitation. Thank you for all your hard work!
