our history

the btr journey

From a bold vision in 2002 to becoming one of North America’s leading truck rental companies, BTR’s history is defined by solving specific fleet challenges and adapting to industry growth. Over the years, we’ve evolved from a small startup to a powerhouse in truck rental, proudly serving the environmental or waste management, logistics, and yard operations sectors with speed, flexibility, and unmatched support.

2002

The
Beginning

Founded by Scott Dols, BTR was created with a mission to revolutionize fleet rental by providing flexible, on-demand
solutions for waste haulers.

With a deep understanding of industry needs and a commitment to service excellence, Scott built BTR into a trusted name in garbage truck rentals, offering municipalities and private haulers the ability to scale their operations without the burden of ownership.

2003-2012

Strategic Growth & Industry Partnerships

Over the next decade, BTR forged key relationships with top manufacturers and leading CRM providers, enhancing our service offerings and streamlining fleet management solutions.

These partnerships positioned BTR as a leader in waste industry
fleet rental, ensuring customers had access to top-tier equipment with flexible terms to support their operational needs.

2013-2015

Expansion into Canada & Continued Growth

As demand for rental solutions grew, BTR expanded into Canada, further cementing its role as the premier provider of turnkey fleet rental solutions. This period marked significant investments in fleet innovation and optimization, allowing customers to operate more efficiently while maintaining lower capital expenditures.

2018-2021

Brand Expansion & Diversification

With a growing market presence, BTR introduced
Route Ready, our dedicated truck sales program, providing customers with well-maintained, late-model rental trucks available for purchase. During this time, Trivest became BTR’s first strategic financial partner, supporting our initial expansion and growth.

Later, Astatine Investment Partners acquired BTR, further strengthening our financial position and enabling us to invest in technology, expand our fleet, and explore new market opportunities.

2018-2021

Entering the Logistics Space

Recognizing the evolving needs of the logistics and supply chain industry, BTR expanded into yard truck and terminal tractor rentals, providing essential solutions for warehouses, ports, and distribution centers. This move broadened our reach beyond waste management, establishing BTR as a multi-industry fleet provider serving both environmental and logistics markets with reliable rental and purchase options.

2023 & beyond

Unifying for the Future

With over two decades of leadership, BTR continues to grow by expanding rental and truck sales programs, strengthening partnerships, and investing in fleet innovation. As we move forward, we are positioning ourselves as BTR, evolving beyond Big Truck Rental to reflect our expanded focus across multiple industries.
